A very interesting release from a distillery that needs no introduction. Back in 1963 the distillery pretty much invented the concept of the single malt as a marketable whisky when distillery manager Sandy Grant Gordon released the Glenfiddich Straight Malt. Glenfiddich the Original is an attempt to recreate that first release, using a recipe found in Malt Master of the time Hamish Robertson’s notebook. Glenfiddich has also resurrected the bottling style of the time with old-fashioned labelling. Each bottle comes complete with a stylish metal box to keep this rarity safe. The whisky itself is typical Glenfiddich to its core, with wonderful poached orchard fruit flavours, a bright malty heart and a good burst of toasted oak notes. A piece of history, and a very tasty one at that!
