Here at Fine Drams we have made no secret of the fact we love a good Port cask whisky, and this bottling is a real beauty. A delicious, heavily peated dram from Edradour, one of Scotland’s smallest distilleries; this whisky forms part of the distillery’s celebrated Straight From The Cask (SFTC) range!

This whisky was distilled on the 20th of April 2004 and bottled on the 19th of July 2017, having matured in a single Port cask (number 201) for fully 13 years – quite a long time for a port cask maturation.

This interesting cask type has given the whisky gorgeous notes of sweet raspberries, strawberries, blackcurrant boiled sweets and sweet red wine. This makes for an excellent pairing with the spirit’s natural peaty qualities, and the balance between the influence of the cask and the character of the spirit is perfect. The Port cask also gives this whisky its almost pink hue.

Ballechin 13 year old is bottled at a cask strength of 54.8% ABV, and without either chill filtration or artificial colouration, which allows the natural flavours of the whisky to shine through. Indeed, this whisky is presented as close to “Straight From The Cask” as can be!

Just 409 bottles of this single barrel whisky were produced, each coming with their own colourful wooden crate. Therefore, stocks are highly limited and drinkers should move fast if they want to try this delicious dram!
