A fascinating and experimental whiskey from West Cork.
This bottling forms part of West Cork’s Glengarriff series, which uses casks that have been charred using fuel sources from the nearby Glengarriff Forest. This particular expression has been finished for six months in casks that were charred with bog oak from the forest. Prior to this, the spirit was aged in sherry casks.
The result is a wonderfully smoky, fruity and spicy dram that serves up flavours of mezcal like vegetal smoke, dried fruits, spice, bacon, toffee’d malt, plums, apples, dark chocolate and espresso.
The dram is bottled at 43% ABV for a little more body and intensity.
A superb and interesting whiskey that is far more than a gimmick.
