Excellence by name, excellence by nature! This fabulous expression from Glenfiddich lies exclusively in American oak bourbon barrels from the Kelvin Cooperage. The Kelvin Cooperage was first founded on the banks of the River Kelvin in Glasgow in 1963, before relocating to Kentucky in 1991 to be closer to the booming heart of the bourbon industry. Much like Glenfiddich, the Kelvin is a Scottish family-run business, remaining in the hands of the founder and his sons, (Ed, Kevin and Paul McLaughlin) who are all expert coopers. The Kelvin Cooperage has made it their mission to provide the very finest American oak casks to the world, supplying the whisky industry across the globe. Glenfiddich deliberately chose this family owned company for this expression, in a bid to celebrate the Grant family, who founded the distillery in 1887 and have owned it ever since.
Glenfiddich Excellence is not a rushed affair, with the 26 years in bourbon cask creating an incredible depth of flavour, with a beautifully sustained wood-spice throughout. A wonderful example of how good Glenfiddich”s fresh, apple-y spirit can be at greater ages. A must-try dram for every die-hard “Fiddich fan!
