A superb single cask rum from Martinique base distillery, Clément.

Clément have been making rum since 1887, and continue to follow the traditions established by their founders Homer and Charles Clément. The rum is made in the Agricole style, with local sugar cane harvest at the peak of its maturity.

Agricole is a distinctive style of rum that dates back to French colonial times. With this type of rum, molasses is rejected in favour of the fermented juice of the sugar cane, which produces a more fragrant, delicate and grassy spirit.

This particular bottling was distilled on New Year’s Day 2002, and bottled on the 24th of May 2018, having been aged in a single Bourbon barrel for 16 years.

Clément describe the rum’s flavour as “Vanille Intense” , and indeed, that is an apt description, with the spirit delivering tonnes of lovely, fragrant and sweet spice flavours. Expect notes of delicate sugar cane, thick vanilla custard, tobacco, cedarwood, some dried apricot, cinnamon, cloves, charred oak, milk chocolate, lime rind and peppery spice.

Bottled at 41.2% ABV for a touch more body and intensity, this is a rich and delicious rum.
