Bunnahabhain 8 Year Old 2009 (Cask #337 & #338) - Gordon & MacPahil (Cask Strength)
70 cl, 59%

A real beauty of a Bunna bottled by veteran blenders and bottlers Gordon and MacPhail, as a part of their highly regard Cask Strength series.

Gordon and MacPhail have been rated as one of the very best bottlers of Scotch whisky for decades now, with the company operating for over a century. With superb releases like this bottling, it is easy to see why.

A genuinely small batch production, the whisky is the product of just two first fill sherry hogsheads, sister casks number 337 and 338. The spirit was distilled on the 31st of March 2009, and bottled on the 20th of September 2017, having matured for 8 years.

The maturation has produced a densely sherried and spritely whisky, with superb flavours of dried fruit, baking spices (nutmeg, cinnamon, star anise). These are followed by more maritime Islay flavours, sea spray, salted caramel and the very faintest hint of smoke.

The whisky is bottled at an enormous cask strength of 59% ABV, and without either chill filtration or artificial colouration, ensuring that nothing but the natural flavours of the whisky are on show.

An absolute cracker, hats off to both Bunnahabhain and Gordon and MacPhail.
