The 3rd batch of Teeling’s 21 year old vintage reserve, bottled the 28th of March, 2014, and distilled in 1991. This whiskey was initially matured in bourbon casks, before being married in sauternes wine casks, imparting a very interesting array of flavours. This release is limited to only 5.000 bottles.
Nose: Serious vanilla, oakspice, leather, a lot of cherry, blackcurrant, cinnamon, slight chili, sweet grapes, tropical fruit.
Palate: Creamy delivery, a lot of elderflower, sweet malt, orange rind, pineapple, cherry, grape, raspberries, blackcurrant, mango, woodspice.
Finish: Slightly chocolaty finish, quite spicy, and long.
Overall: An absolute tour de force, unbelievable power and guile from this whiskey. Delicious meeting of bourbon cask and Sauternes cask notes, with plenty of tropical fruit and berries. Really really impressive stuff that every irish whiskey fan should try.
