An interesting single grain Irish whiskey from Teeling.
While most grain whiskies use a mixture of a few different cereals, this bottling focuses in on just two - corn and malted barley. Of these two, corn makes much the vast majority of the mix - supplying 95% of the grains used.
After distillation, the spirit has been aged in former Bourbon barrels, followed by a secondary maturation in former Bordeaux Sauvignon Blanc wine casks.
The use of mostly corn for this whiskey has made for a sweeter style, highlighted by the Bourbon cask maturation. This dram serves up notes of citrus rind, crunchy green apples, fresh flowers, peppers, vanilla, pears, apricot, peaches, gentle sweet oak, white grapes, toffee, cornbread, cinnamon and nutmeg.
Bottled at 50% ABV and without chill filtration, this is a rich and full bodied single grain whiskey.
