Another excellent value rum from Caribbean Spirits Panama, as part of their Malecon range.

This rum is made to a recipe specified by Sr. Malecon, a previous master distiller, who brought it over from Cuba. The spirit is distilled from Molasses, and aged in oak casks.

Aged for 8 years, this gives it a little more complexity and body than other spirits in this range. This rum is rich in dark sugar flavours, with notes of overripe bananas, slight funk, clear honey, toffee and slight barrel char.

This rum finds a real sweet spot, light enough to be used in cocktails (it particularly shines in stirred drinks like Rum Old Fashioneds) whilst complex enough to be sipped neat or over ice.

Top stuff from Malecon again, this will appeal to budding home bartenders.
