Port Charlotte OLC: 01 2010
70 cl, 55.1%

A highly unusual bottling from Bruichladdich and their Port Charlotte range of peaty whiskies.

This whisky was distilled in 2010 from the 2009 harvest of Scottish barley. The malt was peated to 40 ppm before distillation, after which it was filled into a unique combination of barrels: first and second fill American oak, 2nd fill Syrah wine casks, and VDN (Vin Doux Naturel – sweet French wine) casks.

After this initial maturation, the barrels were emptied and the spirit vatted, before being finished in first fill Oloroso Sherry Hogsheads from the esteemed Fernando de Castilla bodega for 18 months.

The final product is an incredibly luscious and rich Port Charlotte, with flavours of nutty smoke, rich earthy peat smoke, figs, dried plums and sultanas, cinnamon, nutmeg, star anise, smoked citrus fruit, honey, baked apples, peaches and tannic oak.

Bottled at 55.1%, this is a phenomenal rendition of the PC spirit.
