Cast your eyes upon the final bottling in Diageo’s incredibly popular Game of Thrones series – Mortlach Six Kingdoms!
Now then, those eager Game of Thrones watchers and readers amongst you will remember well that there are in fact seven kingdoms in the continent of Westeros. Yet (SPOILER ALERT) at the end of the show, the North was granted independence, meaning that the number of kingdoms was reduced to six.
Considering all the monsters and marvellous (or terrifying!) creatures that make up the Game of Thrones universe, there is no better pick for this whisky than Mortlach, “The Beast of Dufftown”.
The spirit was aged initially in first fill Oloroso sherry casks, before being finished for a time in American oak Bourbon barrels.
The result is a weighty, meaty dram that offers up notes of prunes, sultanas, figs, dried apricot, banana, coconut, thick vanilla, dark oak, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, orange rind, oily malt, intense pepper and a tough of chilli.
Certainly a beast! This whisky is bottled at 46% ABV for greater body and intensity of flavour.
Perfect for those looking to complete their collection of Game of Thrones whiskies, the bottle is presented with a three eyed raven – the omniscient other form of Bran the Broker – prominent on the label and bottle tube.
