A lovely offering from one Islay’s most prestigious distilleries, Laphroaig!
This purple-hued dram has been aged in former Bourbon barrels, before a second maturation in Ruby Port casks. This expression follows on the enormous success of the 2013 Cairdeas Port Wood release, widely ranked as one of the very best Cairdeas releases.
This bottling takes its name from the old Norse word meaning “Brother”.
The whisky itself is packed with classic Laphroaig notes of medicinal peat, sea spray and iodine, alongside rich fruit notes of juicy citrus, berries and mango. An intense sweet wine note follows, with some further heady-peat flavours.
Bottled at a powerful 48% ABV, and without chill filtration, this is a full-bodied and satisfying whisky.
