Truly one of the most extraordinary bottlings to come out of Islay, and specifically, the historic Laphroaig distillery.
Released in 2006, this is a magnificent long aged expression of “the most richly flavoured of all Scotch whiskies”. Aged in Bourbon casks for three decades, the whisky has developed an extraordinary complexity and depth, retaining its distinctive medicinal peat, though tempered somewhat by its incredible age.
This dram offers flavours of gentle, yet pungent, peat, with iodine, citrus rind, sea-spray and oak taking hold. Further notes arise with time: tropical fruits (mango especially), apricot, peach, cedarwood, slight menthol, heather honey and herbs, thick vanilla, tobacco smoke, gentle spice and a touch of ginger.
Bottled at 43% ABV, this slightly higher proof gives the spirit a warming prickle.
The bottle is presented in a handsome black wood presentation box.
Please note that the lid on the wooden box has cracked down the right side. See the 2nd image.
