This superb, well aged Laphroaig was released as the distillery’s annual limited edition whisky.
The spirit was aged a mixture of quarter casks, former Bourbon barrels and Oloroso sherry butts. After separate maturation for 27 years, the casks picked for this release were blended together, and aged for an additional 12 months in sherry casks.
The result is a rich, inviting whisky with notes of subtle peat smoke, earthiness, iodine, chopped herbs, sea spray, burnt wood, green apple, cedarwood, cinnamon, honey, dried fruits, liquorice, toffee, beeswax, orange rind and some fudgy chocolate.
Laphroaig is known for shining at great age, and this is no exception. The bottling is a spectacular whisky, amongst the finest Laphroaig have released.
Bottled at 44% ABV and without chill filtration or colouration, this is a well structured and rich dram.
A expression that seems certain to be a legendary release.
