A spritely creation from Jean-Luc Pasquet, created from a 20 year old recipe.
La Belle Inconnue was initially created as a means of using new make spirit at a time when Cognac sales were low. 20 years on, Jean Pasquet, Jean-Luc’s son and successor, reintroduced the product as a means of celebrating his relationship with Amy, an American who he met at a wine tasting in Argentina. They fell instantly in love. La Belle Inconnue translates as “the beautiful unknown” – a fitting tribute to love at first sight!
This bottling combines freshly squeezed, and totally organic, grape juice with one year old Cognac eau-de-vie and CO2. La Belle Inconnue delivers intense flavours of grapey sweetness, apple juice, a little citrus acidity, quince, and some sweet, bright, spiritous Cognac. It has a lively effervescence, and pours a pale straw colour.
Beautiful enjoyed chilled by itself, this also works brilliantly with clear spirits such as gin or vodka. Of course, it pairs well with its parent spirit, Cognac, in a nice twist on the Classic Champagne Cocktail.
A great pairing with fruit tarts.
