A peaty dram from the Isle of Jura distillery.
This whisky takes its name from a prophecy about the Campbell Clan, lords of the island for hundreds of years. The prediction states that the last Campbell to leave the island would do so with only one eye and with all his possessions in one cart, pulled by a white horse.
Whilst Jura tends to be a more lightly peated spirit, this is one of their peatiest options. Although this whisky has no age statement, it contains some very old Jura spirit, and has an average age of around 20 years. The bottling has been aged in a combination of former sherry and Bourbon casks.
This whisky serves up notes of iodine, heather peat, honey, slight tar, oily nuts, a little smoked meat, pine wood, mixed spice, chopped herbs, sea spray, liquorice, burnt brown sugar, sherry and a touch of dried fruit.
Bottled at 46% ABV, this is a warm and satisfyingly smoky dram.
