A new 18 year old from Jura distillery, first released from the travel retail market.
An interesting release from this distillery, which has been produced in small batches. After aging in former Bourbon American oak barrels, it is finished in “Grand Cru Classé Barrique” Bordeaux red wine casks.
Whilst the whisky still reflects Jura’s house style of maritime, peaty and oily spirit, the cask finish adds a layer of sweet, fruity complexity that one might not usually associate with Jura. 18 years of maturation has tempered the rougher edges of the Island spirit, and brought out some interesting, light tropical fruit flavours and a little nuttiness.
A welcome addition to this distillery’s range, that fans of peated whisky will enjoy.
