Another superb whiskey from this impressive Irish distillery.
This whiskey has been aged for three and half years in ex-Bourbon American oak barrels, followed by two finishing periods: one of six months in former Oloroso sherry butts, and another in Madeira butts.
You would expect this whiskey to be packed full of oaky flavours, and so it proves, though the youthful spirituous quality of the dram ensures excellent balance. Notes of milk chocolate, sweet grapes, dried fruits, cooked apples, spice, citrus, warm hay and honey are all apparent.
A small batch bottling, just 498 bottles were released from one Madeira barrel, bottled on the 27th of February 2017. The whiskey is bottled at 42% ABV, giving a little extra warmth to the flavours.
As the note on the bottle says, this is a select barrel release for “DRINKING”! So get to it!
