Traditionally made from barley, potatoes, and sugar beets, the history of “Poitin” (pronounced “Potcheen”) goes back far in Irish history, all the way to 584AD. For the past couple of centuries, Poitin was distilled illicitly, and only on a very small scale, until now where the Irish craft distillery, Glendalough has revived the drink. This Poitin, the Glendalough Mountain Strength, is matured for a short period in virgin Irish oak casks and bottled a rather high strength of 60% ABV.
