Another excellent bottling in the much loved Distillers Edition series from Diageo and Caol Ila.
This time round, spirit from the famous Islay distillery has been finished in former Moscatel wine casks. The result is a wonderfully complex dram that balances smoke and sweetness beautifully.
This 2007 vintage serves up notes of warming, fruity peat smoke, alongside cherries, fresh pastry, burnt malt, mint leaves, dark chocolate, vanilla, some dry grassiness, peppery spice and a little sea spray.
Bottled at 43% ABV for a little more depth and warmth, this Caol Ila ticks all the boxes.
