The third and final release in Bowmore’s cult favourite Devil’s Cask series.
There is a demonic story that inspires this whisky series. Apparently the devil came to Islay one day, and to Bowmore. But as the church at Bowmore is round, there were no corners for him to hide in, the townsfolk chased him to the distillery gates where he escaped to the mainland in a cask of whisky.
The whisky has been aged in a mixture of first fill Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry casks, which gives it a doubly dark, doubly fruity flavour – giving rise to the name, Double the Devil!
The result is a boldly flavoured, heavily sherried dram with flavours of dark chocolate raisins, salted caramel, candied orange rind, sugared ginger, plums, blackberry, cherry brandy, prunes, some thick peat smoke, cinnamon, coffee, cream, vanilla and lemon rind.
Bottled at a cask strength of 56.7% ABV, without chill filtration or colouration, this is a luxurious and satisfying whisky.
Sweet and smokey just the way we like them.
Fantastic
