An extremely difficult to pronounce bottling, but an extremely delicious dram!
Ardbeg Corryvreckan takes its name from the world’s second largest whirlpool, located between the isles of Islay and Jura. Corryvreckan translates as “cauldron of the speckled seas”, illustrating the turbulent power of this vortex.
Indeed, this is a whisky that matches the whirlpool pound for pound for power. Matured in a mixture of first and second fill Bourbon and new French Oak casks that have been picked out by Dr. Bill Lumsden, Ardbeg’s cask master.
This maturation has imparted a lovely complexity and maturity that offsets the intense peat of Ardbeg. Drinkers can expect notes of smoked meat, charred oak, fudgy peat, vanilla cream, toffee, tropical fruits, dark chocolate, espresso and sea spray. The flavours have a remarkable intensity, helped in no small part by the fact that the whisky is bottled at 57.1% ABV.
Corry, as it is affectionately known, is a fantastic dram that showcases the raw power and intensity of Ardbeg’s spirit.
Great, delicious Ardbeg
