The 2007 Vintage of Aberlour’s fabulous White Oak range. This Speyside Powerhouse distillery is famed for its deliciously rich and intense sherried whiskies, with the dense Christmas cake character a key characteristic.

This release however, bucks the trend, with the whisky having been matured for 10 years in American White oak (quercus alba) casks. This gives Aberlour’s whisky a very different profile to the norm, and makes it a great opportunity to get to grips with the nature of Aberlour’s spirit, without the sherry influence.

The cask maturation has obviously considerably changed the nature of this whisky, with a vanilla-rich, Bourbon-like quality replacing the heavier sherried notes of most Aberlour whiskies. Drinkers should expect notes of apples, pears, coconut, almonds, bright oak, oily malt and toffee. The Aberlour spice is still very apparent, with this a key part of their spirit’s character.

Bottled in the old-style wine bottle design, this whisky represents something a little different for fans of Aberlour, well worth exploring. Extremely tasty stuff!
