This is an amped up version of the regular 12 year old, bottled non-chill-filtered at 48%. Luckily, because it is non-chill-filtered it has retained all of the precious oils and flavour components that would otherwise be lost to chill-filtration, making this a much more full whisky. If you are a fan of Aberlour, this is a must have.
Nose: Plums, charred red fruit, caramel and warm hay. Some dark chocolate, and apples with heavy helpings of cinnamon and cloves. Slight figs.
Palate: Fiery delivery, very nutty Oloroso with plums and figs. Nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves dominate the palate. Snapping caramel frames the background. Very slight chili powder.
Finish: Long, heavily spiced high quality dark chocolate.
Overall: An excellent expression of the Aberlour juice, given a higher proof and a thicker mouthfeel. This is a huge sherry bomb, exploding on the palate with spice and fruits. Very impressive stuff.
