Savanna distillery in Reunion is known for producing high quality, high ester rum.
This bottling is no exception, indeed, “Herr” refers to High Ester Rum Reunion. The spirit was distilled from molasses (though the company also make sugarcane juice rums in the Agricole style) in a pot still. Prior to distillation, the molasses were fermented with different yeast strains for 11 days. This batch was made in August 2017.
Either way, the result is an intensely funky and fruity rum which offers up flavours of raspberries, bananas, strawberries, pineapple juice, apples, lemon candies, mint, beeswax, and some slight vegetal notes of tomato leaf and olives.
A funk bomb, that has 423.4 grams of esters per hector litre of per alcohol. At 57% ABV, you can bet this is a warming and intense drinking experience.
One that will appeal to the fans of funkier Jamaican rums. Just 2,300 bottles were produced.
