Plantation have made quite a name for themselves with these vintage, single origin releases, and rightly too — they’ve been consistently superb.

This bottling follows suit. A wonderful 2005 Vintage Guyanese rum (presumably from Diamond distillery). This rum has been aged for 7 years in former Bourbon casks in the tropics, followed by a secondary “Continental Ageing” at Chateau de Bonbonnet, the home of Pierre Ferrand, owners of Plantation.

Plantation state that their Guyanese offerings are the only rums in their stable to have “sugar cane syrup” as the raw material. The spirit has been distilled in a Charente alembic still.

Drinkers should expect a rich, decadent rum, with wonderful highlights of chocolate, espresso, tropical fruit, chili and tangy citrus. The spirit is bottled at a warming proof of 45% ABV, giving these flavours an extra kick.
