A lovely little bottling of 12 year old whisky from Old Pulteney distillery, in the northern extremes of the Highland region. A much loved dram across the whisky world, with drinkers prizing its oily, maritime and fruity notes. This is a dram that has been aged for 12 years in mostly former Bourbon American oak barrels, with a little matured in ex-Sherry casks from Jerez. On the nose, maritime notes of brine and oil leap up at the drinker, with a little zingy citrus and a wisp of woodsmoke. The palate brings bright cereal flavours, with notes of toasted cask, oil and salt. Some tropical fruits emerge after a while. The finish is long, with nice bright Bourbon flavours, a little toffee and drying sherry. The miniature’s funny little bump in the bottle neck reflects the unique design of Old Pulteney’s stills. A lovely dram, and a great chance to taste without committing to a full bottle!
