Octomore 7.3 Islay Barley
70 cl, 63%

Another edition of Bruichladdich’s superb Octomore X.3 range. Each of the numbers following the decimal point means something different with Octomore, and with .3 it means the whisky has been made with entirely Islay barley grown at the Octomore farm by James Brown (the godfather of soil!)

This dram was aged in a mixture of former Bourbon American oak barrels and red wine casks from the Spanish wine region of Ribera del Duero for five years. Octomore is known for being some of the most heavily peated whisky ever made, and this bottling has been peated to a level of 169ppm – seriously smoky stuff.

This whisky is perhaps more elegant than other Octomores have been, with a creamy citrus note opening up the palate, accompanied by a dense floral peat, touches of apricot, peach, toffee, vanilla, sea spray and malt, with a little melon, mint and wood spice.

Octomore 7.3 is bottled at an intense 63% ABV, and without chill filtration or colouration.

Simply put, this is absolutely brilliant whisky that shows exactly what Bruichladdich and Octomore is all about.
