Octomore 10 Year Old 3rd Edition
70 cl, 56.8%

The eagerly awaited third edition of Bruichladdich’s 10 year old, hyper-peated, Octomore bottling. This expression has been named διάλογος or ‘Dialogos’ (the Greek word for dialogue) by Bruichladdich, with the distillery hoping that it provokes debate amongst drinkers. Two further whiskies will be added to this series.

This whisky is made with 100% Scottish barley, harvested in 2007 and distilled in 2008. The malt for this dram has been peated to a massive 167 ppm. Maturation occurred entirely on Islay, with the whisky having been aged in a mixture of of 1st fill Port pipes (37%), first fill Cognac casks (31%) and second fill former Bourbon casks (20%). An additional parcel of whisky aged for 3 years in first fill former Bourbon and 2 years in virgin oak casks, before a final 6 year period in second fill Bourbon barrels makes up the final 12%.

The final result is a wonderfully rich, complex and smoky dram, which serves up flavours of dense vanilla custard, icing sugar, chocolate, thick peat smoke, tobacco smoke, red berries, golden sultanas, wood smoke, coconut, cornbread, cinnamon, blueberries, hay, pears, crunchy malt, leather and cloves.

This whisky is bottled at a cask strength of 56.8% ABV and without either colouration or chill filtration. A robust, and intense whisky, this rewards patient drinking.

Just 12,000 bottles were produced worldwide.
