A very special release from venerable distillery, Macallan.
This bottling contains some spirit made with barley grown at the famous Easter Elchies estate, where Macallan is based. Here, the barley grows in the fertile soil alongside the River Spey. The estate is rather small, only about 485 acres. This Macallan-based barley spirit is very precious, as distillation occurs only once a year, over seven days.
The whisky displays plentiful traditional Macallan sherried qualities, with notes of woodspice, orange rind, citrus oils, toffee, dark chocolate, vanilla, figs, dried fruits, cinnamon, cloves, old oak, rich malt and slight leather.
Bottled at the slightly higher proof of 43% ABV, this is a well crafted and fascinating dram from the famous old Speysider.
