A constantly popular limited edition, the Distiller’s Edition of Lagavulin is always impressive.
This particular bottling is noteworthy in that it celebrates 200 years since the distillery was founded – back in 1816.
This whisky was distilled in 2000 and bottled in 2016, after a finishing period in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks. Pedro Ximénez is a sweet, almost syrupy style of sherry, rich in notes of walnut, raisins and spices that lends depth and honeyed flavours to the iodine-rich peaty spirit of Lagavulin.
Bottled at 43% ABV, this gives these flavours a little more depth and power. The Distiller’s Edition comes complete in a smart, green labelled bottle, with gold accents, bringing a touch of class to proceedings.
A wonderful marriage of peat and sherry, and an extra dimension on the standard 16 Year Old.
