Another beautiful sherried whisky from Taiwanese distillery, Kavalan.
This dram forms part of their Solist range, a series of single cask whiskies that showcases the distillery’s diverse spirit reserves. This particular expression was distilled on the 21st of June 2012, and bottled on the 14th of November 2018, with a final age of six years. Whilst this might seem rather youthful, the heat and climate of Taiwan means that the maturation process is accelerated, producing a whisky of wonderful complexity and depth.
Kavalan Solist #040A serves up notes of rich, boozy plums, with some sour cherries, dark oak, sultanas, orange rind, vanilla, marzipan, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, espresso, bittersweet dark chocolate, slight chilli powder and peppery spice.
Bottled at a formidable 59.4% ABV and without chill filtration or colouration, this is a satisfying and fully flavoured whisky.
