An excellent addition to Kavalan’s Solist range of single barrel whiskies.
This bottling has been dram from Cask #004A, a former Bourbon barrel. The spirit was distilled on the 14th of December 2010, and bottled on the 21st of October 2016, giving it a final age of 5 years. This might seem young, but in the intense heat of Taiwan, maturation is accelerated.
Kavalan are better known for their Port and Sherry Solist bottlings, but these Bourbon matured releases offer a glimpse of the distillery’s house style.
The dram serves up notes of buttery oak, vanilla, red apples, cinnamon, pears, hot malt, popcorn, nutmeg, mango, apricot, toasted coconut, a little banana, fragrant cedarwood and thick toffee.
This bottling is presented at fearsome cask strength of 58.6% ABV and without chill filtration or colouration.
Kavalan’s Solist Bourbon editions are serial winners of awards, with a similar bottling having picked up Asian Whisky of the Year in the 2014 Asian Whisky Awards.
This cask had an outturn of only 188 bottles.
