A revival of a much-loved bottling from Glenmorangie, which was discontinued back in 2012 (and first released back in 2008).
This is the 2017 resurrection of Astar (which is taken from the Gaelic for ‘Journey’), and like the original, the spirit has been aged in specially made oak casks from the Ozark mountains of Missouri, where the trees grow.
This single malt really emphasizes the flavours of the American oak, with strong notes of honey, caramel, vanilla, toffee, coconut, almond, orchard fruit and custard. There are also some classic Glenmorangie notes of honeysuckle and rose, and a little spicy highland character.
Bottled at a robust 52.5% ABV, and without chill filtration or artificial colouration.
The result is something of a rarity in the whisky world: a dram that showcases the flavours of both the cask and the spirit equally.
