Another top quality bottling from Gordon and MacPhail, as part of their excellent Connoisseurs Choice range.
The Elgin bottlers have chosen a 27 year old Glencadam for this bottling. Glencadam is another underrated distillery to be highlighted by the Connoisseurs Choice series. Glencadam has been a blending malt for much of its existence, and has swapped hands many times. It was mothballed briefly in 2000, before being reopened just 3 years later. A Highland distillery it makes a floral distillate, a result of the stills’ upward lyne arms, which produce greater reflux.
27 is a mighty maturation for this whisky, which was distilled in 1990 and bottled on the 20th of September 2018. It has been aged in a single refill Bourbon barrel, producing a delicately flavoured yet intense spirit.
The final product offers up notes of orchard fruit, ginger, slight grapefruit and lime, toffee, honey, honeysuckle, elderflower, butter, dusty oak, and gentle wood spice notes of nutmeg.
This dram is bottled at a cask strength of 49.9% ABV and without chill filtration or colouration, with the result being a whisky with a creamy, buttery mouthfeel.
Just 124 bottles of this rare treat were produced.
