Often seen as an “Elder Statesman” of the whisky world, Glen Grant’s consistent production has meant that there are plenty of well aged bottlings to be one.
One thing that whisky drinkers do not see a lot of from this distillery is batch (or cask) strength official releases, so this bottling is a welcome addition to Glen Grant’s range. Initially created for the American market, we have managed to get our hands on a few bottles.
After 15 years of maturation, developing a good depth and complexity, this whisky has been bottled at a warming batch strength of 50% ABV.
The dram shows of Glen Grant’s classic malty, vanilla rich spirit well, with notes of bright oak, almond, sugared lemons, ripe bananas, pineapple, apricot, peach, hazelnut, soft cinnamon, stem ginger and crumbling brown sugar.
A slightly more aggressive profile than we are used to from Glen Grant, this is an enjoyable deviation from the norm.
