A truly astounding rum from Diamond distillery’s El Dorado Rare Collection.

Enmore here refers to the famous wooden coffey column still at Diamond that was used to make the spirit, one of the most well known and unusual stills in the world of rum. The still is also known for being a harsh mistress, with only the most skilled stillmen able to produce rum of real high quality from the Enmore. This is an example of such a rum.

Aged for fully 20 years in Guyana, this is a 1996 vintage that was bottled in 2017. The rum was matured in former Bourbon casks, and in the heat and humidity of Guyana, has developed an incredible complexity and depth.

This rum serves up notes of rich, heady oak, accompanied by espresso, very dark chocolate, vanilla, yeasty molasses, caramel, musky flowers, sweet fruits, chopped mint, sweet bananas, apples, purple grapes, coconut flakes, citrus rind and star anise.

Bottled at 57.2% ABV, this is a filling, satisfying rum with a full mouthfeel.

A phenomenal achievement from Demerara, rums like this just do not come around that often.
