Another superb Gordon and MacPhail Connoisseurs Choice bottling.
This time round they’ve produced a vatting of four refill Bourbon barrels from the Craigellachie distillery. Craigellachie is a Speyside distillery known for its use of wormtub condensers, which produce a weighty, complex spirit.
The whisky was distilled in 2005, and aged for 13 years, having been bottled on the 26th of June 2019.
The final result is a rich, sweet whisky with notes of apples, pears, grilled pineapple, vanilla, peppery spice, toffee, liquorice, aniseed, charred oak, delicate malt, lime rind, pressed flowers, brown sugar and cinnamon.
Bottled at 46% ABV and without chill filtration or colouration, this is a lush, satisfying dram..
Craigellachie bottle their own official 13 year old, and a fun experiment would be to compare this expression with the distillery’s own.
Only 1,314 bottles were produced.
