The sister bottling to Chateau de Montifaud’s outstanding Silver XO bottling, this time with more “Attitude!”
This Cognac starts life as grapes grown on the company vineyard, which has been in the possession of the Vallet family since 1837 (the family have run Montifaud since 1866, and over 6 generations). This vineyard is auspiciously place, with flat land that allows for plenty of sunlight, and chalky soil that ensures the perfect amount of acidity in the final spirit. The vineyard is also located in the Petite Champagne cru, widely seen as one of the best crus in the Cognac region.
The spirit is aged in French oak casks for a minimum of 6 years, the amount legally required for an XO Cognac such as this one. That said, Montifaud are well known for aging their spirit well in excess of the legal stipulation, making for a more complex and flavoursome Cognac. The company keep their casks in their cellars: a cool and dry environment that is perfect for maturing spirits for long periods.
Drinkers should expect a wonderfully flavoursome spirit, with rich fruity notes of peach, white grape, dried plums and cherries, and oakier notes of toffee, vanilla, baking spices and stewed apples. The mouthfeel is creamy and luxurious.
This bottling differs from the other Silver XO Cognac in its shape and presentation, coming in a decanter-style bottle with squat silver gift case. This eye-catching design will doubtless make it a sure-fire hit on even the busiest back-bar or widest collection.
Another superb Cognac from Montifaud, keeping up their excellent reputation!
