A frankly astonishing whisky from Gordon and MacPhail.
This bottling, part of the longstanding and superb Connoisseurs Choice range, is a 1984 vintage Caol Ila, from the Islay region, which has been aged for no less than 34 years in a single refill sherry cask.
Caol Ila, which produces a mediumly peated style of whisky, shines at higher ages, and this is no exception, a superb, decadent whisky.
This dram serves up notes of smoked meat, dark chocolate dipped raisins, vanilla, earthy peat, stewed apples, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, vanilla, orange rind, aniseed, wood smoke, salted caramel, slight iodine, prunes, buttery old oak, and cracked black pepper.
Bottled at a cask strength of 52.5% ABV and without chill filtration or colouration, this presentation ensures the drinker gets the full benefit of the whisky’s great age.
Just 192 bottles were produced, each coming with their own wooden presentation case.
