Bunnahabhain 27 Year Old 1989 (Cask #5798 & #5799) - Signatory Cask Strength
70 cl, 45.4%

A staggeringly delicious small batch production Bunna from Signatory Vintage. This bottling takes one of Islay’s milder malt whiskies, and ages it for 27 years in two hogsheads, sister casks 5798 and 5799.

This malt whisky was distilled on the 23rd of October 1989, and bottled on 28th April 2017, with this extraordinarily long maturation period has produced a whisky of a singularly delightful character, with a slight, bracing iodine note accompanied by classic Bunna flavours of chocolate, leather and dried apricots. A little dusty oak rounds this beauty off.

Bottled at a natural cask strength of 45.4% ABV, this is one of those low-ABV cask strength whiskies that just blows you away with its depth of flavour and dignified drinkability. The strength indicates that a lot of this whisky has been lost to evaporation, something also shown by the small number of bottles produced: just 354 from two hogheads, making this a real rarity and unique experience.

As always with Signatory’s Cask Strength collection, this whisky is presented free from artificial colouration and chill filtration, allowing its natural flavours to take hold. Each bottle comes with the classic Signatory Cask Strength presentation tin. A decadent and delicious whisky that Bunnahabhain fans must try.
