The Bruichladdich distillery on Islay has three distinctly different brand, of which Octomore of the most heavily peated, or a so-called ’peat monster’. The Octomore is actually the peatiest whisky in the world! Behind this crazy Octomore brand is, of course, the whisky legend, Jim McEwan. This bottling, the 06.1, is the 6th edition of this smoky beast, and is aged for 5 years in first-fill bourbon barrels. Every new Octomore until now has surpassed the previous, and this edition does it again with 167ppm! Despite the astronomical ppm levels and all the talk about the “peatiest whisky in the world”, this whisky offers a wealth of delicious, bbq-style notes, such as bacon and smoked ribs.
