First released in 2016 magnificent old single malt from Benromach, distilled just before an 18 year break in production until Gordon and MacPhail reopened the distillery in 1998. The smart packaging of this whisky recalls the dark coloured wooden washbacks, whilst the charming decanter-style bottle is shaped like the stills of the distillery. Aged in first fill sherry casks, this is an absurdly rich whisky. Drinkers should expect rich, opulent flavours of dark, dried fruits, candied apples and wonderfully vivid spices. The balance between the malty core of the spirit and the oaky, fruity sherry cask is breath-taking. This is a brilliant example of first fill sherry cask whisky of great age. Bottlings of this quality do not come around that often, so drinkers should move fast to avoid disappointment!
