This 17 year old expression from the Balvenie distillery furthers the concept of their hugely popular 12 year old DoubleWood. ‘DoubleWood’ refers to a consecutive maturation in two different types of casks, also referred to as a ‘finish’. Exactly like its younger brother, this 17 year old single malt spent the first many years of its maturation in American ex-bourbon barrels, before being transferred to European oak ex-sherry casks. While the initial maturation adds qualities of deeply sweet vanilla, the sherry casks adds dried fruits, and a rich spiciness. The end result is a strikingly complex and delicious whisky, sure to impress even the most seasoned aficionado.
