Balvenie 14 Year Old The Week of Peat
70 cl, 48.3%

Your eyes do not deceive you, Balvenie’s Peat Week has become… The Week of Peat!

Part of the Stories range of Balvenie whiskies, each of the releases in this series attempts to explain an aspect of the distillery’s history.

The whisky takes its inspiration from the decision of Ian Millar, Balvenie’s distillery manager, to install a peat burner at the distillery. Now, for one week each year, the distillery produces fragrantly smoked whisky. Alongside being delicious whiskies, each of the bottles contain a NFC enabled neck tag which provide the drinker with specially recorded audio guides to tasting the whisky through their smart phone. Each bottle also has a specially designed label from British artist Andy Lovell.

The whisky itself is a fascinating variation on the Balvenie spirit we all know and love. This dram serves up notes of sweet gentle peat smoke, smoked apricot, light floral flavours, some heather honey, citrus rinds, oak, vanilla, supple spice, brown sugar and some light milky coffee.

After 14 years of maturation, the whisky displays plentiful complexity and depth, whilst the age has soften the peat’s fire.

Bottled at a warming 48.3% ABV, and without chill filtration or colouration, this is a marvellously full bodied and satisfying dram.
