The third expression released in Wolfburn’s Kylver series.

Wolfburn is now the most northerly distillery on the Scottish mainland, overtaking Old Pulteney upon its founding in 2013 (the original Wolfburn distillery, established in 1821, likely closed sometime in the 1850s or 60s). This area was heavily influenced by Norse culture, having been invaded and ruled by Vikings from around the 8th century.

As such, the Kylver series is named after an important runestone found in Sweden, with each release featuring a different rune. This bottling features ‘Thurs’, which has alternate meanings as ‘thorn’ or ‘giant’.

The bottling certainly serves up giant flavour, with its youthful spirit aged in former Bourbon American oak barrels and ex-sherry casks.

This Wolfburn bottling possesses a classic North-Highland profile, with notes of crisp, waxy stone and orchard fruit, accompanied by some slightly maritime flavours, dried fruit, a touch of smoke and complex wood spice.

Bottled at 50% ABV and without chill filtration or artificial colouration, this is a cracker of a dram.
