This bottling is one of the jewels of the Wild Turkey crown – this bottling was inspired by the short lived Wild Turkey Sherry Signature which came out around the turn of the new millennium.
Cask finishing is not common in the Bourbon world: indeed, for the spirit to legally bear the name “Bourbon” it cannot be aged in anything other new American white oak casks. This fact just serves to make this bottling even more special.
The bottling is a blend of some of the oldest stocks in the Wild Turkey reserves, aged for between 12 to 15 years. This Bourbon has been made with a mashbill of 75% corn, 13% rye and 12% malted barley. After initial aging, the Bourbon has been finished in Oloroso sherry casks which have held the fortified wine for at least 20 years. Rumour has it that Eddie Russell (Wild Turkey’s Master Distiller) had to go to enormous lengths to procure these older barrels. These sherry casks have imparted incredible depth to this bottling.
The result is a dazzling and delicious American whiskey which serves up notes of caramelised peaches, candied orange rind, peppermint, boiled sweets, candied apples, rich vanilla custard, pecans, cherry pie, raspberry, red grapes, dried fruits, cinnamon, nutmeg, rye, mint, almond, dark oak, leather, corn brightness, pepper, maple syrup, pastry, apricot and burnt brown sugar.
The whiskey is bottled at 50.5% ABV for a richness of flavour and mouthfeel.
A wonderful, and rare combination of top quality Oloroso casks and Bourbon, this bottling comes with a charming presentation box.
Just 1,600 cases were produced.
