A whiskey that celebrates the resilience of the Irish people. This bottle of Tullamore D.E.W. features the symbol of Tullamore town on its label and in its name. The Phoenix was added to the coat of arms of Tullamore after 130 buildings were destroyed in a fire following a hot air balloon crash, history’s first known aviation disaster.
Tullamore whiskey is now produced at the legendary Midleton distillery, though a new distillery was opened in the town in 2014.
This whiskey is a classic Irish blend, containing a large portion of single pot still spirit that has been finished in Oloroso sherry casks. New American oak maturation has also been used. The result is a gloriously flavoursome spirit, with delightful grassy Irish cereal notes accompanied by flavours of spice, dried fruit and rich vanilla. Some floral flavours round out the palate.
Bottled at a robust 55% ABV, and without chill filtration this allows the true qualities of the spirit to shine through.
A fitting tribute to the resurgence of Tullamore, this is an excellent high-strength Irish whiskey that offers great value for money.
