Another expression in Tomatin’s series looking at the Five Virtues (or do they mean elements?) that make up whisky distillation: fire, earth, metal, water and wood.
Earth is something of a rarity from Tomatin, as it is a peated single malt (they only make peated spirit for two weeks a year), and it nearly all goes into their Cù Bòcan range.
This whisky has been aged in refill hogsheads, giving it a light oakiness, and softening the fire of the peat somewhat. The maturation also adds notes of vanilla, toffee, woodspice and creamy honey.
Bottled at 46% ABV, without chill filtration or artificial colouring, this is a well crafted dram, limited to just 6,000 bottles worldwide.
