Another fantastic world whisky from an unusual source, Teerenpeli is distilled in Finland! This tiny distillery is based in Lahti, a charming little lakeside city of 100,000 residents. Teerenpeli uses only the finest, Finnish barley and spring water. They shipped a pot still all the way over from Scotland to create their whisky, and are now the largest producing distillery in Finland. The distillery has excellent experience when it comes to cask management, having previously been an independent bottling company. This whisky showcases this wonderfully, having been aged for between five to seven years in former Bourbon barrels, before a finishing period in Madeira casks. This maturation has produced a whisky of excellent balance. On the nose, the heavy vanilla aromas of the Bourbon cask take hold, with notes of barrel char, caramel, sweet malt, and toffee being slowly joined by a sweet white grape and floral scent from the Madeira cask. The palate is faithful to the nose, but adds herbaceous flavours, a slightly peppery spice and prickly menthol note. The finish is long and lingering with notes of espresso, dark chocolate and cinnamon. The flavours are given a little boost by being bottled at 43% ABV. Drinkers should move fast if they want to try this, as it is a limited release. Please note this is a smaller, 50cl bottling.
